MICROSTRUCTURE OF A RAPIDLY SOLIDIFIED Fe-C-Sn ALLOY

The microstructure of a laser-melted Fe-4% C-10% Sn alloy has been studied.A non-crystalline phase was found in the upper part of the laser-melted zone:At the bottom of the melted zone,however,the microcrystalline zone which consists of α-Fe and a bet phase was observed.Fine twinning martensite exists in the other area of the melted zone.

SECONDARY HARDENING OF BAINITE IN HIGH SPEED STEEL

The mechanical properties and structure of bainite and martensite after tempering m 6-5-4-2 high speed steel have been investigated.It was found that the secondary hardening effect and resistance to heat softening as well as impact toughness are higher in the bainite than in the martensite.TEM observations show that the(Fe,M)_3C precipitated in the martensite after tempering at temperature near the peak of hardness-tempering temperature curve.However, no(Fe,M)_3C but the dispersive MC and M_2C precipitated in the ferrite and austenite of bainite after tempering at the same temperature.This indicates that the diffusion of alloy ele- ments forming carbide might exist during the process of bainite growing.

EVALUATION OF PERMEABILITY STABILITY OF SEVERAL AMORPHOUS FERROMAGNETIC ALLOYS

The evaluation of the relative stability of initial permeability has been made of the pre-an- nealed amorphous ferromagnetic alloys Fe_(76)Si_(10)B_(14),Fe_(40)Ni_(38)Mo_4B_(18) and (Fe_(0.1)Ni_(0.35)Co_(0.55))_78Si_8B_(14) by the experimental values of average activation energy and fre- quency factors on the basis of the empirical expression deduced by experimental data of the kinetics of their permeability decay.Calculated results show that the relative stability of permeability is sufficient for practical uses in the temperature range within 100℃,although the permeability instability can not be substantially eliminated.In other words,the permeability decay is considerably small within a period of considerable length.

TEM study was made to explore the mechanism of the strain-age hardening of initially-dis- ordered (Co_(78)Fe_(22))_3V,which was found to be attributed to the formation of a special disloca- tion-stacking fault configuration in company with disorder-order transformation-disloca- tions extended to stacking faults on{111}planes and got connected with each other through partial dislocation reaction at intersections of{111}planes,leading to dense networks with cells bounded by stacking fault tetrahedrons.The results also indicated that ordered (Co_(78)Fe_(22))_3V has very low stacking fault energy on{111}planes and relative high and isotropie antiphase boundary energy,which implies that it is most likely to be Lomer-Cottrell locks,not Kear-Wilsdof locks,that are responsible for the high strength at high temperatures of this alloy.

CHANGE OF BORIDE IN Fe_(70)Cr_(18)Mo_2SiB_9 WITH THERMAL TREATMENT

The formation of borides M_3B_2 M_2B_2 and M_(23)B_6 may be carried out from the melt-quenched Fe_(70)Cr_(18)Mo_2SiB_9 during 700—1150℃ annealing.As the temperature raising,the M_2B,the majority being Fe_2B.may be gradually replaced by Cr_2B via the co-existence between Fe_2B and Cr_2B.The Cr_2B may be formed by trans formation of Fe_2B through the atomic substitu- tion and structural adjustment.The thin slice of remaining Fe_2B is sandwiched between(100) faces of(Cr,Fe)_2B as stacking fault.The M_2B_2 is virtually composed of the Mo_(1+x)(Fe,Cr)_(2-x)B_2 where x(0≤x≤1)increases with the increase of temperature.
